Richard was born June 14, 1891 in Islington, London Borough of Islington, Greater London, England, the son of George John and Julia Leontine (nee Bowen) Broadhead. He was the youngest of four brothers all who served in World War I: William Sydney (CEF), John William (CEF) and George Richard (British Army)were the other three.
Richard immigrated to Canada in 1910 and is shown in the 1911 Canada Census living in South Toronto with his widowed Mother and brothers John and William.
Richard enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expiditionary Force on September 7, 1915 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, service number 138741.
Richard arrived in England on board SS Empress of Britain on April 9, 1916.
Richard was transferred to the 3rd Battalion on June 18, 1916 and went to France on June 19, 1916.
Richard died of wounds September 4, 1916.
