7. info compiled from Pense Book, pg 245, phone directories, documents and Mountainview Cemetery:
Edward was born in Peel, Wellington County, Ontario on June 24, 1853. With his parents, he lived in Peel until his marriage to Alice in 1875. Alice immigrated from Howich England to Canada and lived in Minto at the time of her marriage.
By 1881 Edward and his family, and his brother Thomas and family, had moved to Port Elgin leaving behind his parents in Peel. In 1891 Thomas and family had moved on to Saugeen. Edward's parents moved to Port Elgin by 1891.
Many of the Brooks families and associates (Godson, Wilkie, Street, Roushorn, Tyler, Doan,...) lived in Port Elgin and Saugeen area in 1891. Starting by 1891 the families starting moved to Assiniboia West - Fairville, Cottonwood - area with the majority arriving by 1901. Edward, Edward's parents, brother and sisters (with spouses) eventually settled in this area. Edward's sister Mary Ann married John Wood and stayed in the Pense area.
Edward's son Llewellyn had moved to Vancouver by 1911 and in 1913 married Lottie McVicar. Edward and Alice lived for a time in the Pense District, then in 1913 moved to Vancouver. Possibly Edward's parents came at the same time. His son Bert with his wife and 2 children came by 1914.
Alice Ida, at the age of 61 years, died two years after being in Vancouver. In 1915 their address was 3875 Laurel St, Vancouver. In June 1916 Charles, Edward's father, resided with Edward for 2 1/2 months before his death. For about 10 years (1912-1922) Edward earned his living as a building carpenter. Edward later moved to Port Kells (about 1922) where in the directories his occupation is fruit. He lived there for 20 years before his death in 1942. Edward's sister-in-law Annie Brooks was his housekeeper at the time of his death. His son S.L. Brooks from Squamish supplied the info for his death certificate. His son Bert was living in Bragg Creek, Alberta. There were 4 grandchildren. Edward buried Jones 2, Block 40, Plot 5, Lot 2, and his wife Alice Ida buried Jones 2, Block 40, Plot 5, Lot 3 Mountainview Cemetery Vancouver.
Buried with Alice and Edward are their grandchildren (father Herbert) Harvey Albert Brooks b. 1902 Saskatchewan died Nov 15, 1949 buried Jones 2, Block 40, Plot 5, Lot 1 and Olive Brooks Craig born Saskatchewan died May 25, 1954 age 48 yrs. Jones 2, Bock 40, Plot 5, Lot 3.
Karen's comment: There are no headstones to mark these 4 grave sites. Around plot 5 there is a cement border with "BROOKS" marked into the cement. The border is overgrown and in the summer of 2003 I uncovered the Brooks name from the weeds and grass.
His parents Charles and Phoebe and brother Thomas with wife Lavinia are buried close by
