2. BC Death Record 53-09-011016 Gordon Brooks, born December 6 1893 in Ontario, father John Brooks born Ontario, age 59 years 11 months 8 days, widower D.O.A. Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver on November 14, 1953. Cause of death: asphyxia due to drowning in False Creek, Van., marked arteriosclerosisi cardio vascular disease and rheumatic sclerotic endocarditis. Accidental death
- it is thought that he had taken a heart attack while on his boat K-B-2, at False Creek (& ---?). Last worked October 1953 as laborer in
sawmill. Residence 57 W. Cordova St. Married Pearl King. Informant Phyllis Shortreed, daughter, of 420 Hawks Ave, Vancouver.
Burial November 20, 1953 at Mountain View.

3. Vancouver Sun, page 2, November 14, 1953 Man Drowns In "Creek" Inhalator crewmen failed to revive Gordon Brooks, about 50, whose body was found in False Creek. Dennis Brown, 15, who lives on the fishboat Luck Star with his parents, at the foot of Columbia, found the body apparantly 15 minutes after Brooks fell in. The boy's father, W.J. Brown said the man had been mooring his boat
nearby just before his death. He lived at Travellers Hotel.

BRACEBRIDGE GAZETTE Sept. 30, 1909 "RYDE TOWNSHIP OLD BOYS....Thomas Brooks and Bros. have given up their prosperous livery business in Fernie, B.C. and have bought the old homestead and preemption. They are improving the property. Mrs. Tom Brooks (Louisa Boyce ) who has run large boarding houses in Pense and Fernie, shipped all her household effects and left Fernie the day before the big fire. Her son, Joe, risked his life in saving several victims of the fire, and no better sight was ever seen on land or sea, than Joe with his prancing ponies on that red letter day of fire and brimstone. He is certainly eligible for the Victoria Cross.
Will and Wes Brooks are batching on their homestead, and would welcome any damsel, big or little, who would help them into double harness.
