From the Registers of the New Row Presbyterian Church, Parish of Coleraine, County Londonderry- Marriages , 1823, page 35: May 30, 1823 David Pinkerton of Gerris was married to Mary Ann Parkhill Longhenreach witness Samuel Pinkerton, John Boyd.

David and his wife Mary Ann Parkhill, together with their children John, James, Matthew and Henry emigrated from Secon, Antrim County, Northern Ireland, between January 27, 1829 (when their son Henry was born in Northern Ireland) and September of that year when he took out the following land.

About 1854 he bought a saw and grist mill from a squatter named John Shennan, in Greenock Township, Bruce
County, Ontario. This became the village of Pinkerton, Ontario.

He had the sawmill in operation by 1854 and the grist mill about three years later and a carding and fulling
mill were added soon after.

In the 1860s he had hope of the village becoming the county town for Bruce, but he lost out to Walkerton
which is situated about ten miles to the southeast. Walkerton was named for Joseph Walker who was David's
brother-in-law.

2. from email from L.Leggott Jan 14, 1998 - " I have a "History of Davis and Gallaway Families" which states: James Gallaway (husband of Agnes Ann Pinkerton) emigrated from Fermanagh, Ireland, along with four other families and settled first north of Muddy York at Hogg's Hollow, afterwards called York Mills. The other families were the Yonges, Hogg and Pinkertons. He shortly afterwards bought 200 acres from the Government of Upper Canada at what was then called Pinkerton's Corners, four miles south and two miles east of the Village of Cookstown, Ontario."
