On December 11, 1915 he enlisted in the 144th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expiditionary Force, declaring he was a year older than he was. His service Number was 829376.

He was struck off service April 7, 1916 as a deserter and it appears a court martial was held July 17, 1916 and it appears his status was ammended, probably becaus they established he was under age to begin with. In any event his unit sailed September 18, 1916 without him.

On November 6, 1918 as he joined the RAF in Canada service number 271441. We have no information on his service in the RAF in Canada other than he was released February 19, 1919 reading "Discharged in consequence of being Surplus to R.A.F. requirements. (Not having suffered impairment since entry in to service.)". Thus the war ended before he was required overseas.

After the war on 13 February 1924 he married Annabel Baxter Harper in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba and raised two children: Anne Charlotte and Caroline.

He died in 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
